What song suffered most from being made "radio safe?"

Dizee Rascal’s song “Bassline Junkie” is not good music. Some would debate whether it’s even music at all. But what no one will debate is that it’s explicit. Very, very explicit. So a clean version was made for the radio. Now it’s definitely not music:

Has anything ever been made worse than this in the process of being made safe for radio?

Try 1990s Westcoast gangster rap.

Girl you look fine, won't you back that thing up? You's a big fine woman, won't you back that thing up? (sometimes I sing this to a swing/jazz beat just for fun)

I’m still wondering how Big Sean blew up with “I Don’t F With You” on the radio...

ICP’s ‘Fuck the World’ is hilarious in radio edit. Like every third word is ‘fuck’ and they turn it into ‘oaf’.

Edit: I assume you mean KidzBop is out because that’s all terrible

Will Farrell’s version of Robert Goulet .... version of songs is so rad to do.

The radio edit of 3OH!3's (terrible song) “Don’t Trust Me” was impressively bad. The lyric “don’t trust a hoe” (or something similar, but always containing the word “hoe”) is found roughly eighteen times in the song. The radio version cut that word and replaced it with silence.

I’ve heard it on the radio two ways before. One where they finish they cut the “I won’t do what you tell me” section and stitch the very end back on, and the other where they just censor that section without cutting it.

I would say Fuckin’ Problems by A$AP Rocky probably suffered the most, the first time I heard it on the radio I could hardly recognize the song. There is so much profanity almost no words remain.

Everlast - What It’s Like; not only is it censored aggressively (even the word “gun” is censored), but it is censored with (amusing) sound effects. It transforms the song from one of serious meaning to something funny.

Oh I like it too. It’s catchy as hell. I even went so far as to pay actual money for it at one point. But it is also not what I would consider quality music.

I heard the non-radio version of Everlast’s “What Its Like” once and it confused the hell out of me. I was used to the noises and censoring instead of words.

I’ll tell one that was actually improved, and that’s Cee Lo’s “Fuck You”. The first version of it I heard he said “Eff you” instead of “forget you” and I actually thought that was funnier than the album version. But I also thing that getting bleeped is sometimes funnier than the actual swear, so what do I know?

It’s decent belting-out-at-the-top-of-your-lungs road-trip music.

A few that I know they won’t play or will censor heavily...

FYI these are the uncensored versions.

This was sensored to hitter. lol

Peaches is always censored, and will be played only late at nights. i don’t know why.

Panic at the Disco has the word whore censored.

This song by Sevendust is always censored or not played. The censored version is not the same....

Down With the Sickness by Disturbed always edits out part of the song.

Between this and Wretch 42 I’m convinced all British rap is just chavs who can’t enunciate.

I like the silence version. I heard it before I heard the version with hoe and it seemed fairly poignant. “Don’t trust” as a life philosophy from being hurt. I was young though so who knows.

Haha I’m going to guess you didn’t listen to my example, as I would say none of those are in the same league. The radio edit on Bassline Junkie turned the chorus into
I don’t need no nononope
I don’t need no nonothanks
I don’t want no nonot today
You can keep your yupyup yeaaah

It’s so bad, the first time I heard it was during WRC live rally radio as an intermission song while the host was on break. The host broke back onto the air mid-song demanding 1) to know what the song was, and 2) that it be stopped right away.
